My only crit of this solution is the balance is poorly handled when compared with using a sequencer (such as Cubase) to do the job.

This solution also allows me to use other VST instruments concurrently, making the sounds coming out of NWC rather good. I've had no problems with the version of MIDIYoke intended for NT. I'm on Vista (32-bit) and use a combination of the absolutely stonking free VSTHost (You'll have to Google it, I'm not allowed to post links) and MIDIYoke to host Garritan. I've been using Noteworthy for absolutely yonks now (since I got it on a magazine cover floppy disk in the 90s), but only just discovered there was a community of people discussing my favourite software! So hello everyone, and I hope it doesn't matter that this topic is a couple of months old, but I thought I'd add my 2p. In our video, we use a keyboard shortcut to achieve this, which we programed ourselves in Logic 9. Create a new track with the next MIDI channel. Information - Concerts, News,FAQs, Archives. From Logic’s main window, expand the Inst 1 item in Logic 9 or the Track: Garritan Aria item in Logic X and change the MIDI channel from All to 1. Organs - Electronic (B3 etc.), Pipe, Theatre.

Were I to download any future update to the Aria player or anything like that (if some nasty virus made it through the download screening also) at least there's another line of defence check maybe. I feel slightly safer knowing my virus protection still works for a few split seconds scanning the rest of the main folder contents, including the Aria player. Rather than exclude the entire umbrella "Garritan" folder and everything inside it, I just selected the specific subfolder " C: > Program Files > Garritan > CFX Concert Grand > Data > CFX_Samples" which contains the bulk 123GB of sample data, and that seems to work just as well. Subsequent re-loads are still around 6 seconds.

Thankyou Herq for this great tip - amazing difference!įrom cold bootup, loading Garritan CFX Full Classic Default preset this reduced my taskbar time from 57.67 seconds down to 18.32 seconds. With Garritan folder excluded from windows' native virus & threat protection. When i close it and run it again, it's just 5 seconds now. Then i added the virus scanner exclusion to the whole SSD drive, which is only used for 3 vst's including garritan cfx, and now it starts in just 17 seconds!!! That's on a fresh boot up, and i don't even have a fancy pc, you can see what i got in my post above. disk pre-caching, i changed it to 128, but that just shaved off 6 or 7 seconds. Start Menu -> Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Security -> Virus & Threat Protection -> Manage Settings (under Virus & threat protection settings) -> Add or remove exclusions (under Exclusions) -> Add an exclusion -> Folder -> Select folder where Garritan is installed (in my case: C:\Program Files\Garritan\CFX Concert Grand) -> Click select folder -> done!Īt first it took 83 seconds on 256 Inst. Very easy to change settings, just a few clicks away: With Garritan folder NOT excluded from windows' native virus & threat protection: 80 sec !!! With Garritan folder excluded from windows' native virus & threat protection: 20 sec That's a hour-and-a-half waiting before I could play a note! One gig I accidentally pulled out wrong power cord plug after it completed, and had to then re-load it all over again.

I remember when I first started taking my custom piano samples out to live gigs, my own 64Mb multi-sample took over 45 minutes to load from an internal SCSI Iomega Zip drive into my Yamaha EX5R rack sampler.

Subsequent times thereafter, close down Garritan CFX, re-open it, and re-load same Full Classic Default preset (having loaded those same samples just previously they are still cached) loading taskbar now only 6 seconds. Opening Garritan CFX for the first time after booting computer, fresh loading of Garritan CFX factory preset "01-Full > Classic > 00_Default" = 57.67 seconds waiting for taskbar. Just tried measuring this myself using phone stopwatch.Ĭomputer starting up from cold, from pressing power button until windows desktop is ready to be used = 24 seconds approx.
